Cathy Cash in healthier times

A last note from Cathy Cash
As I sit here looking ahead at the upcoming surgery and reflect on the past year I am compelled to send a message to everyone. This past year has been long and difficult. I have had two surgeries, I had complications with the last surgery which has caused me to be in the hospital more than I have been home since June, I have not been able to eat since June 10, I have experienced pain and vomiting became my friend. Through it all I have felt the support of all the people I know. I have been in awe at the amount of support that has been readily available to me. How can I possibly express the gratitude I feel for the way everyone has responded and shown up as my situation progressed? The doctors are amazed that I am still here. In that same light I am amazed that you are still here. I have not had a need that has gone unfulfilled. Someone always shows up at the exact time I need something. My family has been wonderful, my kids have held my hand and my friends keep on giving.

I wish I could name every name and mention every thing that has been done for me but that would take much too long. Just know that nothing has been done for me that has been taken for granted and that everything has been appreciated. If I am given more time I know my life will be lived much differently, partly due to my suffering but mostly due to the generosity of all of you.

I have learned the meaning of suffering this past year. But more importantly I have learned the meaning of love. Love is that part of us that is connected to everyone at all times. I lived my life before cancer with blinders on. I was not aware of the suffering that surrounded me. I was not open to love available to me. Now I can hold both the suffering and the love. Through the suffering I am learning to let go of all the unimportant things and really know that nothing matters except our ability to love one another.

In closing I do want to mention and thank Lynn, Stuart and Matt for putting together the CD as a fundraiser. I know all of you spent hours putting it together and promoting it. I count it as very successful. I love my CD. Thank you very much.

ThisSongKillsCancer.org is a public charity created for our friend, sister, daughter, mother, Cathy Cash. Cathy has appendiceal cancer and no insurance to pay for the treatment to stay alive. Cathy's medical bills are close to $200,000 now and still coming in. It started with a small idea about selling something downloadable on line to raise some money to help. With much thanks to Matt Ranck, our producer, that little seed has grown into a wonderfully generous group of artists donating their original work to our cause, so that we can give you this incredible collection of music. You may recognize some of the artists here, you may not. But one thing for certain, you can not hear this and walk away with an untouched heart. And that's what this is all about, heart.

We hope that you will share this web site with everyone you know. We hope that you help us help a friend. We hope that our heart touches yours. We hope.

* A MESSAGE FROM CATHY
Visit Cathy's contact site at CaringBridge.org.

My life has been blessed. I have three beautiful, compassionate children. I have a mother and siblings who would do anything for me. I have extended family and friends who are always available to listen, counsel, and console me. These things have made my life full. If I should die tomorrow, I will have known more blessings and fulfillment than I would have thought possible. Yet while I may risk sounding selfish, I do not want to die tomorrow. Perhaps it takes a close encounter with death to make one truly treasure life. There are times when I feel like giving up, but I refuse to do so. Not just for myself, but also for my children and family and friends. They have given me the desire and will to live. I now need to find the means. Your contribution will help to pay medical bills and enable me to receive treatment I could not otherwise receive. Your kindness can literally help save my life. And all I can offer in return is a simple "thank you." Please know how deeply I mean these words!
Cathy Cash

* APPENDICEAL CANCER (DPC)
An advanced stage cancer, Disseminated Peritoneal Cancer (DPC) affects the lining surfaces of the abdomen. Tumors grow on the lining of the abdominal cavity and can spread to other organs in the body. The cancer most often originates in the stomach, small bowel, peritoneum, appendix, ovary, colon, or rectum. Without aggressive treatment, DPC is terminal. Cathy's cancer originated in the appendix, which is extremely rare. The only treatment in existence for appendiceal cancer is hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy with debulking surgery. You can read more about this surgery at www.pmppals.org which is a website dedicated to the peritoneal surgery and patients who have had or are going to have this treatment.
